Non-Toxic Oven Cleaner that really works!

I use the cleaning cycle on our oven, but it seems like it can't remove the splatters on the oven glass. I also want to use something that won't cause any strong fumes.  I saw this idea on Pinterest.

This is what my oven door looked like before I cleaned it.

Sprinkle baking soda on area that needs to be cleaned. Add water to make a paste and let it sit for 15-20 minutes. After 20 minutes, rub the paste to remove the stuck on food.
Wipe off the baking soda paste and enjoy your clean oven.

Strawberry Banana Bread

A few weeks ago, I made Strawberry Banana Bread.  I adapted it from the Banana Bread recipe.
3 bananas
2 cups of mashed strawberries
1/2 cup of brown sugar
1 1/2 cup white sugar
3Tablespoons of vegetable shortening (butter flavored Crisco)
2 Eggs
2 Cups of flour
1 teaspoon of baking soda
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/8 teaspoon of salt

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.  Grease and flour pans.  If you don't know how to do grease and flour a pan...It is really easy.  First, pick your grease...butter, margarine or Crisco.  I choose to use Crisco, since I was using it in the bread.  Next, take a paper towel with Crisco and spread it on the inside bottom and sides of the pan.
Next, sprinkle 1-2 Tablespoons of flour in the pan.
Turn pan on side to make flour fall to the side.  Tap on the side of the pan to spread the flour.  You want the pan to be lightly floured.  You don't want clumps of flour in the pan.
Continue to tap and turn the pan until the inside bottom and all 4 sides of the pan are floured.
Dump out excess flour and set pans to the side.

Mix together bananas, strawberries, sugar, shortening, and eggs.

Sift flour.  In a separate bowl, mix together flour, soda, baking powder and salt.  Pour the dry ingredients into the bowl with the bananas, strawberries, sugar, shortening and eggs.  Mix thoroughly.  Pour batter into 2 large pans or 4 small pans.

Bake at 350 degrees for 60 minutes for 2 large pans or 35-40 minutes for 4 small pans.

Test doneness, by inserting a toothpick in center of bread. If the toothpick comes out clean, the bread is done.  If the toothpick comes out with batter on it, continue to bake the bread for 5 more minutes.  Test bread again with a new toothpick.

When bread is done, allow it to cool for 15 minutes.  Run a knife between the bread and pan.  Turn pan over and allow bread to fall out of the pan onto cooling rack.
It tastes especially good while it is still warm with a little bit of butter spread on it.  Enjoy!

Vox Box Testing from Influenster

I joined Influenster.com two months ago and I have been waiting to be selected at a Vox Box tester.  The Sugar 'n Spice Vox Box showed up today and it was like Christmas.
The orange box contained samples for me to try and review.

I opened the Vox Box and admired all of the great products. I usually shop with 1 or 2 little helpers and I don't have time to look at new products.  This was a great opportunity to try products worth over $25.
One of the first products that I tried was the Vaseline Spray and Go Moisturizer. This is perfect for us.  We prefer to use spray sun screen, because it is so easy to use and it isn't greasy.  It is the same thing for Vaseline's spray moisturizer. It wasn't greasy and it absorbed quickly. 2 hours later my legs still feel soft and moisturized. I plan on putting this in our tote bag to use after swim lessons.  The chlorine has really dried out my daughter's skin and I need to use something easy and fast when she is changing back into her play clothes.
Not only did I receive Dickinson's Original Witch Hazel Oil Controlling Towelettes, but I received 5 coupons to share with my friends. Even though I am in my late 30's, I still have a little bit of oily shine later in the day. These worked great to absorb the oil on my skin naturally, before I headed out the door.
My first thing that caught my eye when I looked at the Colgate Optic White mouthwash was "Same Whitening Ingredient as Strips." I have used the whitening strips before, but I didn't like to leave them strips on my teeth for 15 minutes. The toothbrush was gentle. The toothpaste had a great minty taste. The mouthwash tasted like the whitening strips, but I only needed to use it for 60 seconds.
I tried these biscuits and I liked the taste.  I had my girls try them and they liked them too.  There are 4 biscuits in each package. They were not sticky or messy like some granola bars. This is a great grab and go snack to take in the car.

I don't use sweeteners in my tea, so I am going to pass this along to a friend to try.

I received these products complimentary from Influenster for testing purposes. Follow this link, if you are interested in being a Influenster tester: influenster.com

Gummy Bear Science Experiment

I saw this experiment from Teach Preschool and I thought my girls would love it. You can do this experiment with any gummy candy, but I choose to use gummy bears.
First, we filled the plastic cups halfway up with cold water.
Then we placed one gummy bear in each cup and let them sit on the counter overnight.

Our observations: The gummy bear grew in size and lightened in color.

After, we removed the squishy gummy bear we noticed that the water had changed color too.  We smelled the water and it smelled sweet and fruity like a gummy bear.
This was an simple experiment to do with my little scientists and we got to eat the unused gummy bears. :)

Pinterest finds this week

A berry cobbler with only 6 ww points per serving. It also only has 3 ingredients.  I must try this. Living a changed life has a lot of other great recipes that I need to check out.

Like this collage wall from House of Rose.

My girls would love to try this gummy bear experiment  from Teach Preschool and of course we might have to try a few of the gummy bears.
